My name is Djamila and I am a proud native of Burkina Faso, West Africa. I have lived majority of my life in Burkina and moved to the United States in my early teens. I am currently living in the United States trying to impact the world one Jamil Glow at a time. I started this business, which focuses on promoting self-love for girls of darker skin complexions, because I struggled as a dark Skinned girl to find myself and love myself. The word ¨Jameel¨ means beautiful and Jamil is a derivative of my name Djamila. Jameel and Jamil are pronounced the same way, so I took the meaning of Jameel, beautiful, and added it into Jamil and added glow behind it. In translation ¨Jamil Glow¨ means ¨Beautiful Glow¨. As I was starting in this business I really thought about the message I wanted to send. I thought about my years in primary school and how I was bullied. I thought about how I was seeing history repeat itself in my sisters as they were experiencing bullying as well. I want my sisters to love themselves and to see that they can be great despite the obstacles society places in front of us. I want to be that positive representation in their lives. A positive representation of growth after overcoming and proving society wrong. A positive representation of black girl magic. We are beautiful and the flaws in us make us beautifully unique.
